Why the use of RFID technology?

WHAT IS RFID?

They are the abbreviations of Radio Frequency Identification, that is to say, identification by radio frequency. Basically it is a remote data storage and retrieval system. The transmission of information is carried out by radio waves, generated by RFID transmitter / receiver antennas. The basic architecture is as follows:

The element that contains the information is called a tag, TAG or transponder and is made up of a kind of small sticker with a data storage chip, an antenna that facilitates the exchange of said data and a radio transducer.

The reader is made up of an antenna, a transceiver and a decoder. The reader periodically sends signals and when it picks up a signal from a tag, it extracts the information and passes it to the data processing system.

The data processing system or middleware provides the data processing and storage means for management.

WHY RFID?

At Orbital we have opted for the use of this technology, without rejecting the use of others for certain applications, either because they require it or because the client so wishes, among other things due to the following points.

- Very high reading reliability.

- Accessible information without the need to have the label in sight.

- It is not affected by dirt on the label or if it is under an object.

- It is adjustable, that is, it allows positional changes of the labels without the need for adjustments.

- Provides a unique identification of the object.

- Allows readings in motion.

- Allows readings from several meters away.

- Its regrabables.

- The information is "invisible" and can be protected by password.

- It allows reading several pallets simultaneously without repositioning the antennas.

- Reduces the cost of installing end-of-lines by avoiding wiring for the transmission of kinematics command signals.

- Improves the productivity of forklift parks.

Technological resources

- Solutions based on RFID technology with own and / or market Hardware and Software adapted to each purpose.

- Online store (under construction) that acts as a purchasing center for HW, SW and services for our clients.

What does Orbital contribute?

A unique experience in the application and maintenance of RFID to control the flow in an industrial environment of continuous operation, from the reception of packages to the dispatch of the finished product, including eventual reprocessing.

Two complementary phases can be distinguished, although they can be applied independently:

1. Flow control in production with RFID

- It encompasses the operations of identification, labeling and verification of the pallets produced. It begins at the exit of the palletizer and ends with the production exit to the finished product warehouse.

- Static reading elements are used.

- Label positioning is carried out using robotic arms, although other less sophisticated technologies are possible.

Complementary applications

Traceability of samples for preparation of flow elements:

Guide widths Calibration of control machines Palletizers

Traceability of verification results of control machines in production.

* Currently a CONTINUOUS CYCLE INDUSTRIAL PLANT has been operating with this technology since 2013.

2. Control of the flow of pallets in warehouse and shipments with RFID

Carried out by trucks equipped with RFID reading elements and information exchange, in real time, with ERP environments. It begins with the entry of the pallets in the warehouse and the feeding of the different flows depending on the status of each pallets (eventual reprocessing ...) and ends with the loading and dispatch of trucks.

* Currently there are TWO CONTINUOUS CYCLE INDUSTRIAL PLANTS that work with this technology, one of them since 2009 and the other since 2012.

Complementary applications

Early alerts for repetitive defects, in real time, forklift productivity, packaging entry control, pallet control by status, in real time, security, activity control
